Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavior Therapy is a therapy model that focuses on the connection between a person’s thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Generally, our thoughts create our feelings and our thoughts and feelings determine our actions. If we want or need to change an unhealthy behavior or uncomfortable feeling, we need to identify the thoughts that create the feeling or behavior and learn how to challenge and change those thoughts.
CBT is an evidence-based therapeutic treatment model that has been proven effective in treating many psychological disorders, and works especially well with anxiety and depression. It also includes teaching coping strategies to deal with uncomfortable feelings and difficult situations, such as frustration, powerlessness, sibling tension, self-harm, family discord, stress at work, or disappointment with school or grades.
