ADHD and Neuropsychological Evaluations
Because Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a commonly known neuropsychological disorder, we often receive referrals requesting that we test to determine if the diagnosis is valid. While many people with ADHD go undiagnosed, we also know that it can be easily misdiagnosed – there are other brain-based and emotional challenges that can “look” like ADHD (e.g., working memory, central auditory processing, anxiety, executive functioning, processing speed), but whose treatment or intervention would be markedly different. For this reason, we strive to rule in or out the other potential factors impacting focus, self-regulation, and organization so that we can fine-tune your understanding of these issues, and direct you to the most effective interventions. An ADHD/neuropsychological evaluation often includes assessment of cognitive functioning, academic skills, attention/impulse control, fine motor and visual-motor integration, executive functioning, memory, auditory processing and processing speed, among other areas.
