College Accommodations
Because learning or attention issues do not “graduate” with your child at the end of high school, a thorough evaluation conducted before heading off to college is often needed in order to access accommodations and support services. Even if you have prior evaluations that supported the need for accommodations in middle or high school, most colleges require the use of updated (within the last two years) psycho-educational testing using “adult” tests. We often recommend updating testing during the Junior or Senior year once teens have turned 16 years of age so that the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Test (WAIS-IV, the “adult” form of the cognitive test) can be administered if accommodations are needed in college. If your child has already been admitted to college, you can check their college’s website for more information about specific tests required for formal support at that site; those that we use are customarily the assessments requested by most colleges.
