Lindsey Rust, MA
Maybe we worry the people we walk alongside make it harder, or perhaps we doubt our own strengths along the way. Sometimes we need a guide for these most difficult stretches, and I hope to be there for you as you learn the skills to come out stronger.
I seek to provide a safe and supportive environment for you to engage in skill-building activities, improve coping strategies, brainstorm solutions, and learn more about yourself and what you have to offer. We can also work on challenging or re-thinking beliefs that no longer serve you and on developing healthier emotional responses. I work with clients in a solution-focused, action-oriented manner, and incorporate cognitive and behavioral strategies (known as CBT) in our work together. I take a practical and goal-driven approach to therapy, providing resources, education, and tools to meet your unique needs. You know best what is important in your life, and you are always free to provide feedback as to how to make your journey the best it can be for you.
I work with a wide variety of issues with clients ages 8 years through adults, and provide couples and family therapy as well. Some concerns with which I can help include depression, anxiety, OCD, ADHD, autism, relationship challenges, and behavioral difficulties. Together, we can help you improve emotional regulation and stability so you can feel more “yourself” and ready to face any challenges that come your way. I can help you build skills to improve impulsive behavior, facilitate mood stability, negotiate social difficulties, and communicate better. We can work on executive functioning skills such as time management, organization, and planning, as well as education/awareness about navigating relationships. I also view parents of children and teens as critical in the success of treatment, and work collaboratively with you to support your child in implementing new skills, and adapting parenting approaches to meet the unique needs of your child.
My hope is for you to feel more confident in managing life’s challenges, utilizing your strengths, and reaching your fullest potential.
Background: I received an M.A. in Marriage and Family Counseling from Liberty University in 2022 and also hold a B.A. in Psychology from Pepperdine University. I am currently a Resident in Counseling working towards full licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC); this means I receive weekly support and education from my supervisor but hold over two years of experience providing a variety of therapeutic services. I have experience working in community counseling, performing intensive in-home and parent coaching, and working in private practice.
A common myth about MFTs (Marriage and Family Therapists) is that we only work with couples and families. MFTs are highly trained clinicians who use a systems approach when working with individuals struggling with any issue, whether in a relationship or not. Our training gives us the opportunity to see problems from a lens that incorporates one’s interactions, relationships, environment and context. MFT’s are a great fit for individuals, as we understand the fundamental influences that exist in all of our lives and the challenges one may be facing. Most of the clients that we do see at Bridges Therapy and Wellness Center are seen for Individual Therapy, while we do also see some couples and families, as well, when appropriate.
Lindsey Rust is a Resident in Counseling who is working under the direct supervision of Dr. Lisa Kellogg, LMFT, LPC. A Resident in Counseling refers to a therapist who holds a Masters degree in a program that teaches counseling skills, and who provides therapy under supervision as they earn clinical hours and experience toward licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor.
